Marjorie Taylor Greene joins Tucker Carlson in breaking w...

Former US congresswoman and Trump loyalist Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced that she is finished backing the Republican party, aligning herself with TV rightwinger Tucker Carlson after his own high-profile rejection of the GOP just months ahead of the midterm elections.

During a recent episode of the Can’t Be Censored podcast, Carlson said when he appeared as a guest there was “no chance” he would support the Republican party any more, after years of being a prominent booster for Donald Trump.

He had pointed to his growing dissatisfaction with the party, but clarified that this did not mean a shift to the left. “Not gonna support the Democratic party,” Carlson was quick to add: “I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

He also said he has been “a consistent defender for 35 years of the Republican party. If I’m out, then I think a lot of other people are out.”

Now, Greene has publicly voiced her support for Carlson’s position, signaling what she also suggested could be a wider break among longtime Republican supporters and intensifying scrutiny over divisions within the party.

“Tucker is not the only one who is done supporting the Republican Party,” she wrote in a social media post earlier this week. “There is A LOT of us that are absolutely fed up and will not support a party that betrays its voters and country.

“That does not mean we are turning into Democrats either,” she added. “But we are DONE with the America LAST Republican Party.”

Carlson, the former Fox News host, and Greene, the former Georgia congresswoman, have both emerged as vocal critics of the US president’s second term. Their objections have centered on the conflict with Iran and what they see as a failure to prioritize domestic concerns such as inflation while consumer prices continue to outpace wage growth. In April, Carlson said he was “tormented” by his previous support of Trump and regrets the “small but real ways” he helped contribute to his election victory.

The rift between Greene and Trump widened after she criticized the administration’s handling of the government’s Jeffrey Epstein files about the late sex offender with connections among the rich and powerful, placing her in conflict with Trump and other figures in his Maga base.

As tensions grew last year, Trump began calling her Marjorie “Traitor” Greene. Greene ultimately decided against running for another term in the US House and stepped down from Congress at the beginning of the year. In May, Greene revealed that she and her family received death threats after Trump’s public attacks towards her.

Carlson, who has long opposed US involvement in foreign conflicts, said his decision to part ways with the Republican party stemmed from what he views as its abandonment of “America first” principles. He has repeatedly criticized Israel, arguing that it pushed Washington toward war with Iran.

Trump reportedly told Carlson during an Oval Office meeting last year that he would not go to war with Iran.
