Mintlify acquires Trieve to improve RAG search in documen...
Han Wang · 2025-07-24 · via Mintlify Blog

We're excited to announce that Mintlify has acquired Trieve, a provider of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) infrastructure designed to power quality AI search and chat experiences.

Our mission has always been to empower builders, and that begins with making product knowledge instantly accessible.

With Trieve, we're deepening our investment in providing fast, accurate, and context-aware answers from documentation—at the scale that forward-looking companies need.

Trieve was built by developers, for developers.

Co-founders Nick and Denzell started Trieve after hitting a wall with existing vector search tooling while building an earlier product. Standing up search infra from scratch was painful, and what was available wasn't built from the ground up for recent large language model capabilities.

So they built Trieve: a one-click, production-ready RAG system that made it easy to set up AI chat and search.

We discovered Trieve early, even before they finished their YC batch. Nick and Denzell had spun up an initial retrieval demo that blew us away with its quality and performance. It was immediately clear they had built something special.

Trieve quickly became the backbone of Mintlify's search infrastructure. Compared with traditional providers, we could deliver higher quality results with zero minimal fine-tuning and ultra fast performance.

Trieve is the perfect complement for what comes next.

With the launch of our Assistant, documentation is no longer just pages to read, but a conversational system that can answer user questions in real time, before they ever reach your team.

Today, Mintlify already answers over 23 million queries in documentation every month. As that number continues to grow, we need infrastructure built for scale, and for the expectations of AI-native experiences.

That's where Trieve fits in.

By joining forces, we're combining Trieve's expertise in high-performance retrieval with Mintlify's vision for AI-native documentation. Together, we'll accelerate everything from semantic indexing to contextual responses—unlocking faster, more accurate answers at scale.

But just as important, Trieve shares our obsession with developer experience. Nick and Denzell care deeply about craft, speed, and reliability, which are the same principles we bring to every part of Mintlify.

The Trieve open-source project will continue to be supported, and the Trieve team is joining us to help lead our infrastructure efforts in search and beyond.

We're incredibly excited to build this future together. If our mission resonates with you too, we're hiring.
