Staff Engineer — Ship like a staff engineer
pro_methe5 · 2026-06-22 · via Show HN

PRE-LAUNCH · early access open

A staff engineer's battle-tested workflow — OrbStack, Doppler, DigitalOcean, real CI — codified as Claude Code skills your AI actually runs. Not prompts. Not vibes. Production-grade defaults.

The difference

Prompts improvise. Skills ship.

Asking Claude to "set up CI" gives you a different answer every time. Staff Engineer gives you the same production-grade stack, wired the correct way, on demand.

Raw prompting

Re-explain your stack every session. Hope it remembers OrbStack, Doppler, the CI shape. Different output each run.

Staff Engineer

One command runs a real, battle-tested script. Scaffold apps, wire CI/CD, set up observability, audit your toolchain — deterministic, every time.

The pack

Opinionated. Deterministic. Done.

Each skill is a real script the AI runs — not a paragraph it improvises. Same stack every time, the way a senior engineer would actually wire it.

Scaffold a full app: Next.js + NestJS/Prisma + Postgres, OrbStack magic domains (no port clashes), Doppler secrets, husky pre-commit, parallel PR CI — in one command.

$ /squidapp payments-api

Devops toolchain doctor. Checks brew, git, gh, doctl, Doppler, New Relic, wrangler are installed and authenticated. Offers installs, explains every login.

$ /squidops

GitHub Actions that test, build images, and auto-deploy to DigitalOcean on push to main. Zero-to-pipeline.

$ /squidci

Observability in minutes: New Relic health checks, dashboards, and alert channels wired to email + Slack.

$ /squidmon

Real-time out of the box: live updates, presence, and broadcast channels over the Pusher protocol — hosted, or self-hosted with Soketi in your own infra.

$ /squidpush

Durable workflows & background jobs with Inngest — scheduled tasks, retries, and multi-step flows, local in Docker for dev and cloud in prod.

$ /squidflow

How it works

Three minutes to a sharper Claude.

Download the pack

One zip. No accounts, no telemetry, no runtime. Yours forever.

Run the installer

./install.sh symlinks every skill into ~/.claude/skills. Idempotent — re-run anytime.

Just build

Type /squidapp in any session, or let Claude trigger skills by description. It now ships like you do.

Who's behind it

Written by someone who's been paged at 3am.

🦑

Built by a staff engineer with decades in Silicon Valley shipping complete, high-performing systems. Every skill encodes a real, opinionated workflow — not a generic tutorial. You're buying judgment, packaged.

Questions

FAQ

What exactly do I get?

A downloadable zip of Claude Code skills plus an installer. Each skill bundles the scripts and templates it runs. It's a one-time purchase — a digital copy you own, not a subscription.

Do skills get updated after I buy?

Yes — that's the point of owning it. Skills are continuously refined as tooling evolves, and new skills are added to the pack over time. Buyers get every update and every new skill, no extra charge. Re-run ./install.sh and you're current.

Do I need anything special?

Claude Code, and (for the infra skills) the usual macOS dev tooling — brew, Docker via OrbStack, Doppler. The free /squidops skill checks all of it for you and tells you what's missing.

Is there a free version?

Yes. Join the early-access list and /squidops is yours free — a genuinely useful toolchain doctor. The full pack (scaffolding, CI, observability) is the paid product.

How is this different from just prompting Claude?

Prompts improvise. These skills run deterministic scripts — the same battle-tested stack, wired the same correct way, every time. Less "please set up CI" and re-explaining; more /squidci and done.

When does it launch?

Soon. Two skills are ready today; more land before launch. Join the list to get notified, vote on what ships next, and lock in early-access pricing.
