VIENNA, Austria – July 13, 2021 – Enterprise software developer Proxmox Server Solutions GmbH (henceforth "Proxmox") has today announced the next major version 2.0 of its new open-source server backup solution. This version is based on Debian 11 “Bullseye”, but using the newer Linux kernel 5.11, and including OpenZFS 2.0. The whole software stack is written in Rust – a modern, fast, and memory-efficient language.
Proxmox Backup Server is an enterprise backup solution, capable of backing up and restoring VMs, containers, and physical hosts. By supporting incremental, fully deduplicated backups, the open-source backup solution significantly reduces network load, required storage space and, as a result, total cost of infrastructure. With the integrated web interface, users can easily manage and monitor all backup tasks from a single pane of glass and quickly recover single files, archives, and entire VMs in case of a disaster.
Proxmox Backup Server is free and open-source software, published under the GNU Affero General Public License, v3. The downloadable ISO image can be installed on bare-metal. Proxmox Backup Server 2.0 is now available for download at https://www.proxmox.com/downloads
Proxmox Backup Server 2.0 is based on a new major version of Debian GNU/Linux; distribution upgrades from older versions of Proxmox Backup Server are possible via APT (see https://pbs.proxmox.com/wiki/index.php/Upgrade_from_1.1_to_2.x). It is also possible to install Proxmox Backup Server on top of Debian.
For enterprise users, Proxmox Server Solutions GmbH offers a subscription-based support model, which provides access to the extensively tested Enterprise Repository, with regular updates via the web interface, as well as technical support on a subscription basis. Prices start at EUR 449 per server, including unlimited backup storage and unlimited backup-clients.
