Emmecubo successfully migrates from VMware to Proxmox VE
2025-05-12 · via Success Stories from Proxmox customers & users

Emmecubo, a web agency from Treviso, Italy, looked for an alternative virtualization solution to VMware to host its services. They were able to fully implement a more cost-effective solution based on Proxmox Virtual Environment in less than a month. Proxmox Gold Partner Seeweb provided crucial support in the decision making process and during implementation.

The Italian web agency emmecubo was established in 2004 and is active in the development of e-commerce solutions, websites, and web marketing. The company previously used VMware to host its services on 30 virtual machines (VMs). Due to an increase in VMware’s licensing costs, the company sought an alternative virtualization solution.

Proxmox VE and Proxmox Backup Server with support options

By migrating its whole infrastructure from VMware to Proxmox VE, emmecubo increased the flexibility, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of its IT infrastructure. They decided to invest in Proxmox VE Standard subscriptions and in a subscription for Proxmox Backup Server to secure the virtualization of their infrastructure with access to the stable Enterprise Repository and technical support directly from the Proxmox developers. Seeweb provided support during the migration process by providing security patches, updates, and diagnosis of possible issues in terms of security and performance.

Flawless migration in less than a month

The migration of emmecubo’s 30 VMs worked quickly, without any downtime in the agency’s services, thanks to the ease of use of Proxmox VE. During the migration process, emmecubo was in charge of creating the new VMs, of updating the nodes, and of all routine management tasks. With the help of Seeweb they achieved a high level of automation and easiness in the management and control of their infrastructure during the whole migration process.

Massimo Tito, CEO of emmecubo, explains: “The greatest benefit of using Proxmox VE, beyond cost optimization, was the flexibility and the ability to operate directly alongside Proxmox Gold Partner Seeweb on the infrastructure and on some custom automation developed by emmecubo.”

Increased efficiency

Cost savings, greater flexibility, and the possibility to rapidly create new VMs are measurable results of emmecubo’s migration to Proxmox VE and Proxmox Backup Server. The switch to the new virtualization solution brought better use of CPUs and memory, improved management of backups, high availability (HA), as well as new features like the restore of individual files from backups. The company can now invest more in their infrastructure due to the substantial savings in virtualization costs.

Massimo Tito, CEO, Co-Founder

Seeweb continues to support emmecubo beyond the first phase of the migration and provides services covering infrastructure optimization and performance improvement. The migration from VMware to Proxmox VE was a full success for emmecubo. Virtualization based on Proxmox VE became a central part of emmecubo’s long-term IT strategy and the company is planning to expand its use in the future.
