Hangzhou Restaurant Recommendations (3)

Little Zhu Restaurant

Recommendation Level: [Highly Recommended]

Route: Over 30 minutes from downtown, take the expressway to Longwu

This is the only restaurant I've visited twice in a row. It's near the Xiaobian restaurant I ate at last time. I discovered it one night when I noticed a long line of people waiting outside. Later, my son's friend recommended it, so I decided to give it a try. It's a family-run business, and they have a limited supply of ingredients each day. In the evenings, in addition to young people coming to check it out, there are a lot of elderly people gathered there to eat.

Overall, the atmosphere and ingredients were pretty good. I recommend ordering the small crucian carp and stir-fried chicken with vinegar. These two dishes, paired with a little rice, are almost perfect. Besides food, they also have their own tea leaves. If you like tea, you can order some and sit for a while. It's especially suitable to go in the afternoon. The small courtyard basks in the sun, making you feel incredibly lazy.

Oh right, parking is also very convenient, you can park anywhere alongside the small shops. When you go, you can do more than just eat. You can visit the nearby tea mountain. It has a different kind of charm

Grandma's Noodle House

Recommendation: [Average]

Path: If you're going to Qing Shan Hu (lake), you can pass by in Old Yu Hang.

I've always heard that there's a great noodle shop around here in Yuhang, but I've always missed it somehow. Last week, I was on my way to Chang Le Lin场 and figured since I was going to be passing through Yuhang Old Town, I'd drive over and give it a try. The place is located right in the town of Old Yuhang.

Coincidentally, it's right next to the place where I had 烤猪蹄 (roasted pork trotters) last time. (When I went last time, a year ago, the owner said he was going to close down because he had made enough money and wanted to retire. When I passed by this time, I saw him again. I wonder if he remembers the promise he made back then.)

The Grandma Noodle Shop is also their own house. There are only a few tables in the yard, and the road in front of the small shop is under construction, which is a bit noisy.

Their homemade noodles are not as oily as the noodles in the Little Pigtail Noodle Shop, but the loss of that bit of oiliness might mean it can't compete with Little Pigtail or Shetianwan (Shetianwan is the best one I've had so far). I ordered a beef 拌川 ( 拌川 is a type of spicy noodle dish with various toppings), and the portion was a bit small. In addition to selling noodles, this small shop also occasionally sells some crops, but of course, that depends entirely on luck. For example, when I went this time, they were selling sweet potatoes that they said they had grown themselves.

Overall recommendation: average. If you don't live in the old Yuhang area, I wouldn't recommend going there. Compared to other famous restaurants, I personally feel that the taste is slightly worse.

MUJI

Recommendation index: [Pretty good]

Location: By the Hubin Yintai, quite convenient

This place is not small, but it does stand out. Many people know that MUJI sells clothing and furniture, but the MUJI store near Hangzhou Hubin Yinta is also selling very simple Japanese set meals. If you happen to be shopping nearby and are interested in Japanese set meals, you can go to this place to have a very simple meal.

Although it's called Japanese set meal, the taste has been modified. For example, the stir-fried pork belly with kimchi I ordered leans more towards the flavors of Jiangsu and Zhejiang cuisine, probably due to localization. But this kind of thing isn't about being authentic or not, as long as it tastes good.
