Two days in Vilnius, Lithuania
Ashish Bhatia · 2025-09-22 · via ashishb.net

Continuing from Riga, Lativa, in a 4-hour bus ride, I ended up at Vilnius, Lithuania. The town feels quiet and small. There isn’t a lot to do here.

Day 1

Start your day with a walking tour which gives you a nice overview of this city.

Medeina/Medeine is a famous forest goddess of the baltics before conversion to Christianity.

Afterward, visit the Money Museum of the bank of Lithuania. Just like the Bank of England Museum, you can hold a gold bar here. And there’s no entry fee.

You can touch the gold bar at the Money Museum

Afterward, visit the KGB museum of occupation.

Day 2

I started the day with the Museum of Illusions. It is a bit basic and not worth the price tag of €13 per person. I would not recommend it unless you are traveling with kids.

For €6 you can climb to the top of 13th century tower Bell Tower. It has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times, it is less maintained than the one in Tallinn, Estonia, so, if you have done that one, feel free to skip this one.

The Stebuklas tile is end point of the longest human chain formed as a protest against the Soviet occupation.

And don’t forget to visit the cute town of Uzupis, a self-declared micronation with gorgeous murals.

Note

  1. Credit cards are widely accepted
  2. Vilnius, like a typical Eastern European city is much cheaper than Southern Europe or the nordic countries.
