A Weekend Getaway to Malta

Last weekend, I swapped the cold Dublin for the Mediterranean sun with a trip to Malta. My journey started on Friday evening. I left Dublin at 7 pm and, after a few hours in the sky, landed in Malta a bit past midnight.

Saturday morning was all about exploring Valletta. I started my Valletta tour at the Waterfront, lined with these old, colorful buildings. And then went to Barrakka Garden. Naturally, I headed to the city gate from there. It's this big entrance to the city, pretty hard to miss. Then, I checked out St. John's Co-Cathedral. I only saw it from the outside, but it still looked impressive. The Triton Fountain was up next. It's this big fountain with three bronze Tritons.

I planned to visit the Blue Grotto, famous for its stunning sea caves. But guess what? The sea had other plans. It was too rough for boat trips. Still, hanging around there was fun.

Later, it was time for Mdina, the old city fortress. I really like narrows streets. It was a really joyful to have a walk. I visited St Paul's Cathedral. I had a lunch there. I ordered maltese and seafood platter. I wasn't impressed to be honest. I then had some sweets, no luck there as well.

Back in Valletta for dinner, I tried rabbit. It's a local dish, quite popular in Malta. Tasted good. I might have high expectations but it still didn't impress me.

On Sunday, I decided to take it easy. Stayed in Valletta, walked by the sea, took some photos. It was a chill end to the trip. I left around 2 pm to catch my flight back.

So, that was my Malta weekend. Simple, enjoyable, and a nice change of scenery from Dublin. Malta might be small, but it's packed with history and beautiful views. If you're thinking of a quick getaway, it's a pretty good choice.
