A highly unusual incident shared on Reddit has attracted significant attention from the PC hardware community after a gaming PC reportedly absorbed the impact of a stray bullet that entered an apartment during the night. While the system itself suffered catastrophic damage, the resident escaped without injury. According to Reddit user "angelbabyzz," the incident occurred during the early morning hours while he was asleep. He was awakened by a loud explosion-like sound followed by shattered glass. After investigating the source of the noise, he discovered that a bullet had penetrated a neighboring apartment wall before striking his gaming PC. Photographs posted online show extensive damage throughout the system. The tempered glass side panel shattered immediately upon impact, while the motherboard sustained a direct hit that left a large hole through part of the PCB. Internal components were scattered, and one memory module was completely dislodged from its slot. The most notable damage was visible on a G.SKILL memory module. Its metal heatsink was heavily bent and deformed, indicating that it was directly struck during the event. Based on the available photographs, the projectile appears to have interacted with multiple internal components before coming to rest or changing direction.
Local police responded to the scene and launched an investigation. According to the victim's account, officers confirmed that the projectile originated from a neighboring apartment. The neighbor reportedly claimed that the firearm discharged accidentally and immediately apologized following the incident.
Authorities subsequently confiscated the firearm and initiated criminal negligence proceedings. No injuries were reported, despite the bullet entering a room occupied by a sleeping resident.
The gaming system itself appears to have suffered extensive damage. In addition to the shattered side panel and damaged memory module, the motherboard sustained structural damage severe enough to render it unusable. Other components may also require replacement due to secondary impact damage and debris.
Following the incident, the neighbor's insurance provider reportedly agreed to compensate the victim approximately $3,500 to cover cleanup costs and replacement hardware. Additional expenses beyond the insurance payout were also reportedly promised by the neighbor.
While the story has generated considerable discussion among enthusiasts, it is important to note that PC components are not designed to provide any form of ballistic protection. The unusual circumstances of this event appear to have involved a combination of hardware placement, impact angle, and chance. Nevertheless, the damaged G.SKILL memory module has become an unexpected symbol of a gaming PC that absorbed a projectile and may have helped prevent a far more serious outcome.
