Following the launch and overwhelming success of Resident Evil: Requiem, it was revealed that Capcom may be planning to launch a remake of Resident Evil 1 after it releases a Resident Evil Code Veronica remake sometime in 2027. This has obviously led to fans asking questions about what other potential Resident Evil games might receive the modernization treatment. According to notable Resident Evil leaker, Dusk Golem on the ResetEra forums, Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 remakes are not on the cards.
The leak comes in response to another rumor that claims Capcom will remake the entire Resident Evil franchise, eventually culminating in the current status quo as of Resident Evil Requiem—and seemingly retconning certain aspects of the franchise in the process—as part of some overarching plan. According to Dusk Golem, this is not the case, and Capcom currently has no plans to remake Resident Evil 5 and 6, although the leaker does not rule out the possibility of eventual remakes for the games if Capcom decides to one day acknowledge fan demand for those remakes, with an eventual remake all the more likely if Resident Evil 1 and Code Veronica perform well commercially. It bears pointing out that Resident Evil 4, the most recent RE remake, originally launched in 2005, while Resident Evil 5 and 6 launched in 2009 and 2012, respectively, so it makes sense that they wouldn't necessarily be high on the list of priorities for Capcom to remake just yet. Most recently,
According to the leaker, Capcom's plans, especially for remakes, generally spans only five years into the future, with reassessments and changes to the franchises being addressed "every few years" if conditions change and require more attention in another franchise or similar.
The full comment by Dusk Golem reads:
The original tweet I was quote tweeting is claiming Capcom has some plan to do a remake line leading up to Requiem and restructure the narrative as part of some long term plan. This is false, Capcom has no fucking idea right now what they want to do with RE5 and RE6 in remaking them, if they ever even decide to do them (right now they're not committed to that at all), and they definitely aren't making these remakes as some idea to restructure the whole series to Requiem. There's not a plan right now to lead up to Requiem with the Remakes, and really they'll only decide what they want to do with an RE5/RE6 Remake if they ever decide to actually do them. There's not some "master plan" to any of this, they aren't thinking that far ahead about it. They tend to keep to only thinking 5 years ahead at any time broadly and will reassess every few years where they should go with the franchise rather than planning some super long-term plan. There's nuance to the topic, again I think RE5 will probably be remade some day because I think it's incredibly likely fan demand for it will increase after Veronica, Zero, & RE:1, and eventually Capcom won't ignore that. That's just what I tend to think will happen. But the claim the quoted tweet was making is completely false in literally all its details. There is no plan to remake RE5/RE6 right now, there isn't some imitative to remake all the Resident Evil games specifically, and they aren't thinking of tying this Remake line to Requiem specifically. Veronica and Zero Remake will tie into Requiem, but honestly that has a lot more to do with the fact they were in dev at the same time as Requiem than any master plan idea, and Requiem specifically sets up Veronica & RE:0 to tie more into itself.
