Orico introduced the CNM2-U4-GY, an M.2 NVMe SSD enclosure featuring the 40 Gbps USB4 interface. The enclosure seats an M.2-2280 SSD with PCI-Express 4.0 x4 host interface, which it wires out as USB4. Its controller transparently exposes the drive as an NVMe device in USB4 mode, or as a USB mass-storage device with UASP support when connected to 20 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 or older interfaces. The enclosure has mounting holes for 2280, 2260, 2243, and 2230 drive sizes, and supports capacities of up to 8 TB.
The enclosure features an aluminium alloy body with some amount of extrusion for heat dissipation, although the bulk of the cooling is in the hands of a 20 mm fan and its airflow. Under the hood, the enclosure uses an ASMedia ASM2464 controller, which is a single-chip solution for all interfaces and USB power management. The company includes a USB4 type-C cable which has a fixed type-C to type-A adapter, but when connected to type-A, the bandwidth drops to 10 Gbps. The enclosure is priced at around $70.
