Following the recent launch of the Xeno Arena update, Hello Games has just revealed the next update for No Man's Sky, and this time, it's a universe-level threat that players will have to work together to stop. The No Man's Sky: The Swarm update introduces the Hive of Glass, an existential threat that has appeared above planets across the universe and will require players to work together to figure out the best approach and how to defeat the new enemy. The Hive of Glass will engage players in "epic space battles," releasing robotic drones to defend itself against attacks from players and opening a giant iris to reveal a giant space laser—not unlike Star Wars's Death Star—capable of unleashing massive destruction.
When players boot into No Man's Sky following the latest update, they will be met with a personality test that will divide them into three factions, after which they will be expected to work together to unravel the mysteries of the swarm. Players will be able to join the war effort from the Nexus, and the progress of each player and faction will be tracked, and the faction that contributes to the conflict the most will be immortalized in the Space Anomaly. The battles against the Hive of Glass will involve space-based dogfights, strategic attacks on the main hive ship, with investigative efforts on the resulting debris leaving clues to the origin and weaknesses of the enemy. Throughout the campaign, players will earn new weapons, armor, and themed customizations and cosmetics. The Swarm update is now live across PC and console versions of No Man's Sky. The Swarm update trailer follows.
