This is the best budget hair straightener I have ever tested, performing as well on my 3a curly hair as flat irons five times the price. It’s not for everyone—it did not work wonders on my 3a curly hair when I tested it—but if your goal in using heat tools is to prevent damage, this is one of the best options out there. It also comes in a smaller, 1-inch-plate version for $14 less. I think it’s worth getting the larger plates to get the job done faster, but the 1-inch plates are easier to maneuver. —Kat Merck
