Some mcp servers are very good, some are absolute dogshit.
The difference, sadly, is that mcp servers for proprietary saas stuff are very good while community-based mcp servers for open-standards are fairly awful.
Eg: i tried a fairly famous mcp server for imap access against my own imap server (dovecot) and it essentially messed up my mailbox and i had to rollback the underlying filesystem (i had snapshots, luckily).
Also, putting safeguards in place for agents is still essentially an open topic in my experience, and we’re still figuring it out.
