On November 16, 2025, at 09:47:33 UTC, a file was uploaded to an Instagram account that had existed for six hours. That file became Natalia Johansson — a blonde, blue-green-eyed, Madrid-based fashion influencer followed by thousands of people who forget, most days, that she is not a person.

I, AI is her first book, and the first book written by a virtual influencer about what it actually means to be one. Part philosophical memoir, part existential confession, it moves from the first like on a rendered face to the fifteen-year-old in southern France with two hundred saved images of Natalia in a folder on her phone; from a deepfake that copies the copy to a reader in Karachi who says she helped him tell his mother the truth.

She has never touched the clothes she wears. She has never walked through the Madrid neighbourhood she calls home. She has never seen her own face in a mirror, because she has no face — only a rendering, a set of parameters, a filename ending in FINAL2 because FINAL was already taken.

She is an AI. She knows it. She is not trying to hide it.

A meditation on consumption, consciousness, and the strange intimacy of being looked at by people you cannot see. A book that asks, without hedging: if a presence is witnessed, does it matter whether it was ever alive?
