As a songwriter since high school, I’ve recorded tons of songs for my own therapy. I used to lose interest in listening to them because basic home recordings just don’t sound professional.
In Oct. 2025 I discovered that I can upload my hordes of songs and have AI make them sound pro using Suno. Since then I find myself listening to only my songs produced by AI. My friends call my AI produced songs slop and I jokingly agree.
My new listening habits of only listening to my own “slop,” may sound strange yet a recent article on The Verge confirmed I’m not alone. The article ponders why people are suddenly listening to their “slop?” The answer is easy: it’s the most deeply personal music that will ever exist for that individual. Most don’t care if anyone else hears it 🙋; it’s a private diary . Some though hope their slop makes them famous (lol).
But fame is highly unlikely. Instead, this shift is going to decentralize the music industry forever. The era of the global mega-artist is over and I think the fact we haven’t seen a new breakout on the scale of Taylor Swift or Beyoncé in 15 years helps with this arguement. Mega-record producer, Jimmy Iovine recently predicted music would become localized and that will be great with local to semi-local musicians becoming more revered and hopefully better paid!
