The U.S. Copyright Office is proposing to update its regulations governing the recordation of transfers of copyright ownership, notices of termination, and other documents pertaining to a copyright, in anticipation of the commencement of development of a new electronic recordation system. In addition, at least some of the business process improvements described in the proposal could be implemented in the near future, prior to the rollout of the new system.
The Office invites public comments on the proposed rule. The proposed rule and instructions on how to submit comments are available on the Modernizing Copyright Recordation webpage. Written comments must be received no later than July 17, 2017, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time.
