Vector’s latest annual report (2023-24) showcases the innovations and collaborations that fuel Ontario’s AI ecosystem

The Vector Institute continues to foster AI talent, propel economic growth, and support innovation. Over the past year, our efforts have significantly advanced the adoption of AI across various sectors, directly benefiting Canada’s economy and its citizens. Through strategic partnerships, cutting-edge research, and targeted talent development programs, Vector has strengthened the AI ecosystem’s competitive position in the global AI landscape.

Moreover, the report details numerous global research accolades, updates on Vector collaborations with industry, academic, health, and government partners. This year’s report also emphasizes the remarkable people behind these advancements.

Highlights from Vector’s 2023-24 annual report

Enabling businesses and small-medium enterprises with AI

  • Vector fosters economic growth by accelerating AI implementation for industry sponsors, startups, and scale-ups.
  • Vector empowered 341 Ontario organizations across multiple industries with AI expertise, frameworks, and skilled workforce.
  • Supported organizations include 31 leading enterprises, 250 SMEs, and 60 health and life sciences organizations and hospitals.

Nurturing top AI talent

  • Canada recognized as a global AI hub, with Ontario housing the world’s third-largest pool of AI researchers.
  • Vector collaborates with universities and employers to develop AI talent through various initiatives such as Vector-recognized master’s programs, internships, and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Vector awarded 106 Vector Scholarships in Artificial Intelligence last year, totaling 567 since the program’s launch in 2018.

Leading global thought leadership

  • Vector experts were mentioned over 4,790 times in media articles last year, sharing AI expertise nationally and internationally.
