Could you replace python-jupyter_client by python-jupyter-client?

I do not know why got stucked (like 1 hour) in check() function

Thanks for maintain the package.

schnedan commented on 2022-02-01 09:16 (UTC)

I can asure you, it was displayed as not updated when I posted. I checked it.

And yes I know what AUR is.

PS: Thx, the last hint helped

iyanmv commented on 2022-02-01 08:07 (UTC)

1.) when I posted, it was not updated

Last updated: 2022-01-30 15:52 Your comment: 2022-01-31 17:39

Are you kidding me? Your comment was almost 2 hours after I updated the package yesterday.

2.) your mindset as a maintainer is not acceptable. If you take the responsebility for a package, you are the one which people depend on. Arch is on of the 3,4 biggest distros, so its far beyond a hobby project. So yes I expect a professional mindset - at least for packages like thisone. On games I accept a different view.

Your mindset as an AUR user is what is not acceptable. Do you realize that AUR has nothing to do with Arch repos? Do you understand that? Anyone can upload a PKGBUILD to AUR. I'm not even a TU! I'm just a Arch user that, unlike you, has spent some of its free time and contribute to AUR. If you cannot understand that AUR is not [core], [extra] or even [community], I suggest you spend some of your time reading the wiki and understanding what AUR is and what is not.

3.) I not even started to be rude, I still try to be nice because I need happy maintainers and normally appreciate the work done. Unfortunately Arch had some broken packages like samba stoped suddenly in my setup and was not fixed for month. My level of acceptance is sinking, thats true.

So glad I don't have to work with you, if you think you were not rude before. By the way, samba is working perfectly fine on all my devices and, trust me, I use it a lot. So maybe your have some other issues with your system, huh? (partial upgrade, wrong configuration, ...?) But again, even if samba is broken, you cannot compare samba from [extra] with this PKGBUILD from AUR. There are totally different things.

4.) I would be glad if my employer would support the opensource we employees use, instead of buing Microsoft licenses, but even then things like jupyter-octave is something 0,01% of us may be interested in. Too specific. But important enougth for thousands of scientist and engineers around the world who rely on stuff like that

Again, I couldn't care less about your excuses. This is AUR, if something doesn't work for you, it is expected from you to spend some time on it, not simply writing rude comments, especially if you are an engineer.

updated 5min ago (and reinstalled just to make sure...):

jupyter kernelspec list Available kernels: python3 /usr/share/jupyter/kernels/python3

So its not working for me... still

Have you even read the instructions/comments from the developer of this kernel?

https://github.com/Calysto/octave_kernel#kernel-is-not-listed

uninstalled / reinstalled
jupyter jupyter-notebook jupyter-octave_kernel

no change

I do not see any missing dependencies and I don't think hardware has anything to do with it. (AMD Ryzen 7 3800X 8-Core Processor, 64GB Ram,... a normal machine)

If you can specify what information you want or need, I am happy to support.

iyanmv commented on 2022-01-31 17:39 (UTC)

schnedan: also just for my curiosity... could you be more rude and aggressive? The package is not broken, I updated it yesterday and it works just fine for me in two different devices. If it doesn't work for you, maybe try to write a more constructive comment (missing dependencies, some particular hardware, etc.?).

I have files I can not open currently, files which represent some real work - you know, the thing people are earning money with.

Honestly, I couldn't care less. I'm not working for you, nor is anyone here on AUR. If you cannot open files that represent your "real work", they are so critical to keep "earning money", and you cannot figure out, maybe you can pay someone to help you, huh? What do you think?

schnedan commented on 2022-01-30 23:23 (UTC)

Just for my curiosity... are there any plans to fix this packet anytime soon? I have files I can not open currently, files which represent some real work - you know, the thing people are earning money with.

While the octave kernel worked for me some time back in 2021, I found out today that on 2 Systems (two of two...) it stopped working. jupyter kernelspec list does not list the octave kernel any more. reinstalling jupyter-octave_kernel, metakernel and other packages jupyter depends on does not resolve this.

jupyter kernelspec list
Available kernels:
python3 /usr/share/jupyter/kernels/python3

additional info: this seems to run fine

python -m octave_kernel.check
Octave kernel v0.33.1
Metakernel v0.28.2
Python v3.10.1 (main, Dec 18 2021, 23:53:45) [GCC 11.1.0]
Python path: /usr/bin/python

Connecting to Octave...
Octave connection established
Octave Kernel v0.33.1 running GNU Octave v6.4.0
Graphics toolkit: fltk
Available toolkits:
[1,1] = fltk
[1,2] = gnuplot
}

Can you verify, that with the newest version availible, octave kernel is not working?
And if so, is there a fix?

iyanmv commented on 2019-06-27 18:44 (UTC) (edited on 2019-06-27 18:45 (UTC) by iyanmv)

Updated to 0.31.0

Note: If you try to use it with jupyter-metakernel from AUR (version 0.20.14), you will get the following error:

ImportError: cannot import name 'MetaKernelApp' from 'metakernel' (/usr/lib/python3.7/site-packages/metakernel/init.py)

Please, update jupyter-metakernel PKGBUILD manually to version 0.24.2.
