The bug appears to be fixed with commit aecda27.
Please note that gsimplecal now builds against gtk3 by default, and that the PKGBUILD has been updated to reflect this. Those who want to build against a toolkit that won't break all your themes every time there's an update will need to change 'gtk3' to 'gtk2' in the depends array, and append "--enable-gtk2" to the configure line in the build function. Please be aware that there is a bug in the current build which prevents gsimplecal launching: https://github.com/dmedvinsky/gsimplecal/issues/17#issuecomment-27756893 so you may want to hold off updating until this issue is resolved.

Note: I've (finally!) switched to git+https for the source array and changed the pkgver to use the upstream tags instead of the date.
