The New Linux Kernel AI Bot Uncovering Bugs Is A Local LL...

AI

Earlier this month on Phoronix we were the first to draw attention to a new fuzzing tool / AI bot uncovering kernel bugs by Greg Kroah-Hartman, the "second in command" for Linux kernel development and stable maintainer. Greg has now shared more light on the "gregkh_clanker_t1000" for this tool that has been uncovering more Linux kernel bugs the past few weeks.

As of writing there are nearly two dozen patches in the mainline Linux kernel that were merged since 7 April for fixing bugs in ALSA, HID, SMB, Nouveau, IO_uring, and other areas of the kernel that were assisted by this "gkh_clanker_t1000" from Greg Kroah-Hartman. This weekend Greg KH shared a picture of his "gkh_clanker_t1000" via Mastodon. Here is the "gkh_clanker_t1000":

gkh_clanker_t1000

Standing out in the picture is the Framework Desktop that is powered by the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ "Strix Halo" and a real beast for running local large language models (LLMs) and other AI work atop an open-source software stack. Greg has yet to reveal more on gkh_clanker_t1000 from the software side.

Framework Desktop

Ryzen AI Max remains a favorite at Phoronix too one year later for its CPU and iGPU performance while working well on an open-source software stack. With the HP ZBook Ultra G1a review unit since having been returned, all of my ongoing testing of AMD Strix Halo is also using the Framework Desktop that works out quite well for demanding workloads. Great seeing Greg KH also using this combination for helping uncover Linux kernel bugs rather than just relying on cloud-based LLMs.
