The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has officially launched an investigation to determine whether Microsoft's bundling of Windows, Office, Teams, Copilot, and related products constitutes unfair competition. CMA CEO Sarah Cardell stated that business software is the cornerstone of the UK economy, with hundreds of thousands of customers relying on Microsoft's systems. She said the CMA's goal is to understand how the market is developing, Microsoft's position within it, and whether any targeted measures are needed to ensure that UK businesses benefit from choice, innovation, and competitive pricing. Microsoft's practice of bundling office software, AI, and cloud computing will be the subject of the UK's investigation. The investigation is expected to conclude by February next year.
