Shinedown first led Mainstream Rock Airplay, which began in 1981, with the 12-week No. 1 “Save Me” in 2005-06.

Of the 11 artists listed above, seven appear on the latest ranking. Following Shinedown, Three Days Grace’s “Don’t Wanna Go Home Tonight” rises to No. 10, becoming the band’s 28th top 10. Papa Roach’s “Wake Up Calling” is No. 15 after a three-week reign, and Five Finger Death Punch’s “Eye of the Storm” is the week’s top debut at No. 18. Rounding out the group: Volbeat’s “Demonic Depression” is No. 27 after a week at No. 1; Foo Fighters’ “Your Favorite Toy” places at No. 31, also after a week at No. 1; and Godsmack’s “When Legends Rise (Live at Mohegan Sun)” rounds out the group at No. 37.
“Safe and Sound” is the fourth song from Eight, Shinedown’s upcoming eighth studio album (May 29), to reach No. 1 on Mainstream Rock Airplay, with “Dance, Kid, Dance” last year joining the aforementioned three leaders.
Concurrently, “Safe and Sound” leaps 9-6 on the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart with 3.5 million audience impressions in the week ending May 21, up 9%, according to Luminate. The song is also bubbling under Alternative Airplay.
