Duran Duran have been making magic with Nile Rodgers for more than 40 years, and their collaborative winning streak (which helped give the band their first Billboard Hot 100 topper back in 1984) continues into 2026 with the lush dance-funk of “Free to Love” by Duran Duran featuring Nile Rodgers.

On Friday (June 26), the British band will unleash Free to Love: Hot Star Remixes, featuring eight versions of the rapturously received song. “Sometimes a song simply demands remixes and you have no choice but to obey – this was certainly the case with ‘Free To Love,’” explains the band’s Nick Rhodes in a statement. “We wanted to collaborate with the best possible contemporary remixers, which is something we have not done for a very long time. It was a leap of faith, and we had absolutely no idea how the interpretations of our song might turn out, but we could not be more thrilled with the results.”
One of those remixes comes courtesy of Trixie Mattel, the joke-slinging, guitar-strumming drag queen who won RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars in 2018 and established herself as a DJ and remixer during the pandemic.
“The audacity for me to put my own spin on this track!” says Mattel of remixing the new single from the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, during Pride Month, no less. “A slightly higher BPM, more cosmic disco fantasy and a fat nasty bass. I firmly believe anything can be made gayer.”

“It was fascinating to work with artists across different genres of dance music to see how their approaches to our song varied. With music you can either keep it locked up in your room or open the doors to the whole hotel and find out what the other rooms look like and sound like,” said Rhodes. “Personally, I am always curious and more thrilled by the unknown. These remixes were a fantastic adventure.”
Mattel recently joined Billboard for an episode of Takes Us Out at a donut shop, where she talked about her DJ career and finally becoming a Swiftie. Not long after the record’s release, Duran Duran will headline BST Hyde Park in London on July 5. See the full tracklist below.
