Tom Holland Wants to Set Up 'The Next Chapter' For a Next...
Jack Dunn · 2026-05-31 · via Variety

Tom Holland recently told Empire that he is looking forward to passing on the “Spider-Man” mantle to whoever takes over the Marvel franchise next.

“For whoever’s next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter,” Holland said. “Whatever that looks like, I don’t know. But if I could do what Downey did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset.”

Holland is referring to Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, who first brought Holland’s Peter Parker into the MCU in 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War” before meeting his demise in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame” (Downey is set to rejoin the MCU as villain Dr. Doom in “Avengers: Doomsday”).

Since his debut as the red and blue webslinger, Holland has emerged as one of Marvel’s most valuable stars. His first standalone film, “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” started strong with $880 million at the worldwide box office in 2017. But it’s two sequels, 2019’s “Spider-Man: Far From Home” and 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” exploded to $1.1 billion and $1.9 billion worldwide, respectively. The latest “Spider-Man” adventure, “Brand New Day,” hits theaters on July 31 and is poised to be another box office smash.

In a recent profile with GQ, Holland says “Brand New Day” had to shoot a few additional scenes, which he described as the “icing on the cake.”

“I can positively say that the stuff we’re doing, we don’t need,” he said. “The movie works and sings as it is. We’re just adding the icing on the cake in certain areas. We’re finding some ways to add a little bit more humor. We’re layering in a villain plotline in a new way and some really fun stuff.”
