Directed by Lan Hongchun and starring Li Sitong and Wang Yantong, the low-budget breakout hit experienced another massive, word-of-mouth-driven weekend surge. The production has now reached a cumulative total of $158.1 million, cementing its place as a box office phenomenon. The story follows a simple Chaoshan woman whose twilight years are disrupted when her debt-ridden grandson travels to Thailand in search of his rumored billionaire grandfather, only to uncover a hidden love affair spanning half a century. “Dear You” was the third highest grossing film in the world over the weekend, according to Comscore.
Disney’s “Star Wars” universe film “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” the highest grossing film in the world over the weekend debuted in second place in China, earning $5.3 million.
Zhonghe Qiancheng’s suspense thriller “Vanishing Point” moved down to third place, adding $3.2 million to bring its robust cumulative total to $67.4 million. Directed by Cheng Wei-hao and starring Zheng Kai and Liu Haocun, the adaptation of the novel “Sea Anemone” details the intersecting secrets uncovered within a housing compound following a child’s sudden disappearance on the winter solstice.
Shigu Film’s romantic comedy “Be Yourself” occupied the fourth position, adding $1.1 million to push its cumulative box office haul to $10.9 million. Directed by Huang Shi and starring Zhuang Dafei and Wang Anyu, the film follows recent graduate Wu Xiaobei as she navigates severe heartbreak following the abrupt end of her first relationship. Assisted by her best friend, her path to emotional recovery becomes complicated by a succession of new suitors that force her to re-evaluate her expectations of romance.
Rounding out the top five, Momo Pictures’ romantic comedy “Crossing a Dawn” debuted with $700,000 over its two-day opening framework. Written and directed by Zhao Badou and starring Sandra Ma and Edward Chen, the film chronicles two individuals whose chance encounter during a date turns into a series of unique urban interruptions over the course of a single night, and discover an unexpected romantic connection.
Mainland China’s overall weekend grosses reached $59.2 million, while the 2026 year-to-date revenue stands at $2.24 billion, down 43.5% from the same period in 2025.
