Samsung Galaxy Gets Starring Role in ‘Spider Man: Brand N...

One of the stars of Sony Pictures Entertainment‘s latest entry in its “Spider-Man” franchise has little spoken dialogue, but may end up stealing a few scenes.

Samsung‘s Galaxy phones are used by character Ned Leeds (played by Jacob Batalon) to track the whereabouts of the film’s titular hero. Moviegoers will see Spider-Man himself use a Galaxy Z Flip and also watch Leeds make use of a Galaxy Z Fold and a Galaxy Watch.

“Incorporating Galaxy technology into such a beloved Spider-Man storytelling world gives us a chance to showcase how even your friendly neighborhood hero relies only on Samsung Galaxy,” said Keena Grigsby, chief marketing officer and vice president of mobile experience at Samsung Electronics America, in a statement. “This is the perfect opportunity to double down on our belief that Galaxy devices are designed to help everyone stay connected — whether you’re taking photos with friends, keeping up with loved ones, or saving New York.”

Hollywood will be looking at “Brand New Day” to see if it can match the box-office power of its predecessor, “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” That film made Sony’s Spider-Man films more a part of Disney’s Marvel universe, and resulted in one of the bigger movies of 2021. “Brand New Day” is expected to hit theaters on July 31.

In some ways, the “Brand New Day” story starts on Wednesday. That’s when Samsung will launch a real-time interactive experience tied to a “Spidey Tracker” that Leeds develops with Galaxy phones. A custom web site designed for fans features cast appearances and interviews along with “Easter eggs,” content drops and other surprises. Fans can monitor the site for Spider-Man sightings and connect to a shared community experience at SpideyTracker.com and on X @SpideyTracker.

Fans can watch to see where Spider-Man might pop up at live events and venues, in popular creator videos, and perhaps at a Samsung Experience Store.

“Spider-Man has always been a hero defined by his connection to his community,” said said Jeffrey Godsick, executive vice president, global partnerships, at Sony Pictures Entertainment, in a statement. “Teaming up with Samsung helped bring that spirit to life both on screen and beyond, integrating the technology people use every day into Spider-Man’s world while also bringing innovative and fun new ways for fans to engage through the Spidey Tracker.”
