Nate Jacobs may be a Bottega Boy but Rue is a Levi’s Lady in the third season of “Euphoria.”
The relaxed Americana brand, which she wears in Episode 7, is a natural fit for the HBO protagonist who — ever since being brought to life by Zendaya in Season 1 — has been noticeably anti-fashion. While her East Highland peers walked the hallways in glittery eyeshadow and over-the-top Y2K fashion, she opted for oversized sweaters and her signature high-top Converse. In Season 3, having graduated into a criminal underworld, she’s maintained a wardrobe of lived-in and mismatched pieces which, curated by costume designer Natasha Newman-Thomas, root an otherwise sensational show in reality.
Especially compared to the flashy clothing worn by Maddy (in vintage couture) and Cassie (in trend-driven pieces), Rue’s laidback style feels effortlessly cool. That said, like Jacob Elordi’s on-screen Bottega wardrobe, her denim outfit isn’t as realistic as casual viewers may think. The Levi’s trucker jacket she wears in the most recent episode is unassuming but it’s really a custom version of the brand’s Trucker II Jacket, updated with a dark-green corduroy collar. The original version, made out of selvedge denim, goes for $425 on the Levi’s website.
Even as an unwitting pawn in a global drug war, Zendaya still manages to make her character look like a style icon. Of course, Rue’s style is far from top of mind going into the show’s season finale, out Sunday night. Episode 7 left her battered and compromised as she tries to complete her DEA mission after infiltrating Laurie’s compound, where she uncovers IDs belonging to trafficked women.
