'Off Campus' Ratings: No. 3 Biggest Amazon Prime Video De...

Off Campus,” the new romantic drama series about college hockey players, is the third most-watched debut series in the history of Amazon Prime Video.

Amazon says that the series reached 36 million viewers in its first 12 days of streaming. It’s important to note that the company does not publicly define what counts as a “viewer,” therefore it’s possible that a person who watched only a few seconds or minutes of a single episode is being counted in that total. However, “Off Campus” can still reliably be considered a success for Prime Video: Even with unclear metrics, per Amazon, the only debut series to ever outperform it have been “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” and “Fallout.” That means “Off Campus” is tracking above heavyweights like “The Boys,” “Reacher,” “The Summer I Turned Pretty” and more. (All series were compared based on the first 12 days of viewership for their first seasons.)

Among female viewers age 18-34 alone, “Off Campus” is Prime Video’s No. 1 debut of all time. The series is poised to help Amazon retain the viewership base it grew over the course of “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” another romantic drama aimed at teens and young adults, which became a hit by the time its third and final season was released. Per Amazon, “The Summer I Turned Pretty” Season 3 hit 70 million viewers in its first 70 days of streaming, a 65% increase from the 70-day total reached by Season 2. It was also Amazon’s No. 1 television season of all time among women 18-34.

“Off Campus,” based on Elle Kennedy’s 2015 novel, stars Ella Bright and Belmont Cameli. Louisa Levy created the series and serves as co-showrunner with Gina Fattore. Both executive produce alongside Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, James Seidman, Leanna Billings and Neal Flaherty.

“Obsession is officially in session at Prime Video, thanks to the fans who have embraced ‘Off Campus,'” said Peter Friedlander, head of global TV at Amazon MGM Studios, in a statement. “We couldn’t be happier to see such a passionate community come together around Season 1 of creator Louisa Levy and co-showrunner Gina Fattore’s interpretation of Elle Kennedy’s beloved story. When you earn trust and deliver for an audience, they show up — and they’ve certainly done so for ‘Off Campus.'”
