The Forever Home Reveals a Terrible Future Where Only One...
Jesse Schedeen · 2026-06-17 · via IGN All

Writer/artist Christian Ward is on a hot streak lately, with the Event Horizon prequel Dark Descent proving to be a huge critical and commercial success for IDW Publishing. This time, Ward is teaming up with Abbott artist Sami Kivelä for The Forever Home. What happens when an ultra-wealthy family creates the perfect refuge from the climate apocalypse, only for that refuge to be breached? We can't wait to find out.

IGN can exclusively debut the first preview art for The Forever Home #1. Get a closer look in the slideshow gallery below:

The Forever Home #1 Preview Gallery

Here's the official summary for The Forever Home:

Infamous billionaire scientist Henry D'mour could have saved the world. But he didn't. Instead, in a desperate bid to save himself, his wife, and their two children, he constructed THE FOREVER HOME — an ark of luxury and ultramodern convenience insulated from the agony of the planet’s death throes outside its walls . . . and even time itself. Inside THE FOREVER HOME, only twenty minutes pass for every year on the outside . . . allowing the D’mour family to slowly enact their plans for a new world as their automated environment and robotic companions keep them safe. Safe on the inside. Always inside. Until a childish misstep accidentally breaks THE FOREVER HOME’s barrier . . . and what’s outside decides it wants back in...

“The horror of The Forever Home was easy to find,” said Ward in a statement. “It's in the ever-increasing news stories that seem to surround us. Stories of a changing world. Of more and more extreme weather. Where it's not hard to imagine people in the world whose survival is being pushed to the brink by that change and of course, it's equally not hard to believe the conspiracies of the billionaires building themselves bunkers and liferafts for imagined apocalypse. That's the angry seed from which we grow the story of this book. Soaked in the terror that sometimes you have to go impossible lengths to keep your family safe.”

“The Forever Home is like the perfect Ray Bradbury short story by way of Parasite,” said Oni Press Editor-in Chief Sierra Hahn. “Christian and Sami’s vision is haunting, prescient, and an unforgettable look into the future of the world, with cliffhangers worthy of Brian K Vaughan. It's exceptional storytelling.”

The Forever Home #1 will be released on September 9. You can preorder a copy at your local comic shop.
