The Elite Series 2 Core is the official premium controller for Xbox with integrated pro gaming features like adjustable-tension thumbsticks, wrap-around rubberized grip, shorter hair trigger locks, and overall more substantial build quality. The difference between this controller and the less expensive "Core" series is that the Series 2 comes standard with the $60 component pack which includes extra sets of paddles, thumbsticks, D-pad, and a travel case. The Elite Core doesn't come with any of those accessories.

One of the biggest advantages of getting this controller over the standard Xbox controller is the customizability. Without those extra accessories in the component pack to modify the controller to your liking, there's less of a reason to spend so much more than the already excellent non-Elite controller. At this price, the Series 2 and Core cost nearly the same.
