Switch 2 owners, if you want the simplest option, the Switch 2 Edition costs $59.88 and includes all of the enhancements out of the box. Compared to the original $80 price tag we saw over the console's launch this time last year, that's a lot easier to stomach.

Yet, if you're a Nintendo Switch Online member, it's also worth remembering that you can upgrade your OG Switch copies to Switch 2 Editions at no extra cost. So, you could pick up Tears of the Kingdom for even less, at $49.94, and still play the enhanced Switch 2 version (just add to cart to see the price).

If you can check Tears out on the latest hardware, I'd highly recommend it. The Switch 2 Edition brings several welcome upgrades to an already exceptional adventure. That includes improved visuals, a higher and more stable frame rate, faster load times, and HDR support.

It's also genuinely surprising to see Tears of the Kingdom discounted at all. Like I mentioned, Nintendo's first-party games have a reputation for sticking close to full price for years, which makes deals like this feel like quite the rarity.

The timing is especially notable given that the massive open world game skipped last year's Black Friday sales entirely. In fact, this Prime Day promotion marks the first major official discount we've seen on Tears since Black Friday 2024.

Unfortuntely, anyone who picked it up back then scored a much better bargain, with the game briefly dropping to just $29.99. So, as good as this Prime Day offer is, neither Amazon nor Nintendo seems quite as willing to cut prices that aggressively in 2026. Still, a $20 discount on one of Nintendo's best games ever is nothing to scoff at.

In his review for IGN, Tom Marks awarded The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom a rare "Masterpiece" 10/10, calling it "an unfathomable follow-up to one of the greatest games ever made, somehow improving upon it in nearly every way, be that with simple quality-of-life improvements, a genuinely exciting story, or wildly creative new building mechanics that make you rethink what is possible."

Marks was just as enthusiastic when revisiting the game on Nintendo's latest hardware, writing: "Not only does The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom still hold up as a game I can't wait to lose a few dozen more hours in, the updates and additions made to the Switch 2 Edition make it feel like this is the way it was always meant to be played."

There's plenty more to check out in the Amazon Prime Day sale, by the way. If you've not already got yourself a Prime membership, then it may be worth at least picking up a 30-day free trial to access deals like these over the next few days. Otherwise, you can also keep an eye out for retailers price matching Amazon offers. I'd suggest comparing prices at Best Buy, Walmart, and Target.

If you haven't already got a Switch 2 as well, I'd also recommend checking out the "Switch 2: Choose Your Own Game Bundle" which is the best offer you can find on the console right now. It's especially notable considering the console's $50 price hike incoming in September this year.

Most Switch 2 game preorders are also $10 off at Amazon right now as well, which is a mighty good deal whichever way you look at it. That includes Star Fox (which is out this week), Switch Sports Resort, the new Fire Emblem, and plenty more as well.

You don't have to pay for the game until it ships either (per Amazon standard preorder policy), unlike buying digitally, where you have to cough up the cash right away. So, feel free to preorder and lock in that low price, and simply cancel later on if you change your mind.
