Abstract:We study the tri-plane crossing number, that is, the minimal number of crossings in a tri-plane diagram for a bridge trisection of a knotted sphere in $S^4$. We show that every 2-knot in $S^4$ that admits a bridge trisection with at most five crossings is ribbon. As a consequence, we show that the 2-twist spin of the trefoil has crossing number 6. This is the first such computation for a non-trivial knotted surface.
