'Major' delays to Heathrow trains as pipe bursts

Passengers have been told to expect delays after a burst water main saw no trains running to or from Heathrow Airport for hours.

All lines have now reopened after a signal failure caused by flooding at terminals two and three affected services on the Heathrow Express and the Elizabeth Line between Hayes and Harlington and Heathrow.

The Piccadilly line service to the airport was also halted due to planned engineering works.

National Rail confirmed all lines had reopened and apologised for the "major disruption".

Heathrow Airport has apologised "for any inconvenience caused".

Many passengers took to social media to voice their frustration, including South Devon MP Caroline Voaden.

She posted on X: "Absolute carnage at Heathrow Airport.

"All train lines closed - some planned, some not. Hundreds waiting for buses. People wandering around lost.

"Parents crying. Staff overwhelmed, a few trying to help, others avoiding passengers, chatting behind grills in the tube entrance."

Another passenger who uses the handle @LucyProxxyfox on X described the situation as "unbearable" with long queues and a lack of information.

Reddit user Strangely__Brown, wrote: "I got caught up in this, currently in a £150 cab home.

"They were still selling Heathrow Express tickets in the terminal above and desk leading up to the underground entrance.

"There were no signs prior to reaching the underground entrance. 10 staff members in front of it. Zero staff or signs in the lengthy walk to it."
