Samsung confirms Galaxy Z Flip 7, Fold 7 will have major roles in new Spider-Man movie

TL;DR

  • Samsung has officially confirmed that its devices, including the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7, will appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

  • The company is extending the partnership beyond the movie through an interactive fan experience called Spidey Tracker, inspired by a storyline involving Ned Leeds.

  • Spidey Tracker launches on June 17 alongside the film’s second trailer, allowing fans to participate in a global hunt for Spider-Man sightings online and at events.

Remember when Marvel fans collectively lost their minds after spotting Spider-Man seemingly ditching his Sony Xperia for a Samsung Galaxy Flip in a recent trailer? Samsung is now making that connection official, confirming its involvement in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and expanding the partnership beyond a typical on-screen cameo.

When the movie arrives, eagle-eyed viewers will likely notice some of Samsung’s newest gadgets making appearances throughout the story. Peter Parker is expected to be carrying the Galaxy Z Flip 7, while Ned Leeds — Parker’s loyal best friend — will be seen using the Galaxy Z Fold 7 alongside a Galaxy Watch (you can peek the Spider-Man watch face on it in the image above).

Of course, this isn’t the first time a blockbuster has slipped a smartphone into the spotlight. From secret agents using the latest gadgets to superheroes answering calls on brand-new devices, Hollywood has long been a favorite stage for tech companies. Samsung, however, appears to be taking things a step further this time.

Instead of limiting the partnership to a few on-screen cameos, the company is launching an interactive experience called Spidey Tracker. Inspired by a plot element from the film, the online hub puts fans at the center of a worldwide hunt for sightings of Spider-Man.

According to Samsung and Sony Pictures, the idea centers on a fictional tracking platform created by Ned Leeds to locate the web-slinger. Fans will be invited to participate as Spider-Man pops up at events, creator content, and various locations around the world throughout the summer.

The experience is scheduled to go live tomorrow, June 17, at 3 PM ET, coinciding with the release of the movie’s second trailer. Whether fans show up for the Samsung gadgets or simply to get another glimpse of Spider-Man remains to be seen, but Samsung has certainly found a more creative way to market its latest foldables than simply sticking them on a billboard.
