Overnight Valve released SteamOS 3.8.10 into the stable channel. for succeeding SteamOS 3.7. There's a lot happening across the board to their in-house Linux platform for the likes of the Steam Deck and upcoming Steam Machine hardware.

While previously available in beta form, SteamOS 3.8 delivers on a lot of great improvements. SteamOS' Arch Linux base has been updated with a number of newer packages, KDE Plasma 6.4 now replaces Plasma 6.2 for the desktop experience, Wayland is now used by default in the SteamOS desktop mode though X11 is still there for those who want it, the Linux 6.16 kernel is the default, support for the LAVD CPU scheduler, expanded controller/handheld support, seamless boot fixes for newer AMD hardware, and a lot of other hardware improvements.

Most notable on the hardware side is SteamOS 3.8 bringing initial support for the upcoming Steam Machine. There are also Steam Controller improvements.

Also notable with SteamOS 3.8 is improved screencasting support in game mode, updated firmware, preliminary support for HDMI VRR, improved VRR frame pacing, and audio improvements.
