HARDWARE

The many x86 platform driver changes have now been merged for the in-development Linux 7.2 kernel. As usual it's mostly made up of driver enhancements for benefiting modern AMD Ryzen (AI) and Intel Core (Ultra) laptops.

Starting things off with the AMD changes, there is now support for version three of the ranking tables for the AMD Hardware Feedback Interface "HFI" driver. The new ranking table version is used by upcoming AMD CPUs and supports dynamic rankings. Presumably this is for upcoming Zen 6 processors.

The AMD power management controller (PMC) driver added support for Family 1Ah Model 80H SoCs. Again, for Zen 6. The AMD PMC driver also adds a workaround for some Lenovo laptops to delay suspend in order to avoid keyboard and lid switch issues after suspend-to-idle (s2idle).

On the Intel side, the Intel PMC driver landed Nova Lake support.

The ASUS Armoury driver in Linux 7.2 added support for the ASUS ROG Strix G16 2025 (G614PR), ROG Zephyrus G14 2023 (GA402NJ), ROG Zephyrus G14 2025 (GA403UM), and TUF Gaming F16 (FX608JPR). The ASUS WMI driver also added support for the ASUS Keystone dongle as a physical NFC-like dongle that slots into capable ASUS laptops.

Over in the HP space, the HP WMI driver added support for the Omen 16-ap0xxx (board ID 8D26) and board ID 8B2F. The Intel HID driver also added HP ProBook x360 440 G1 5 button array support.

For Lenovo hardware with Linux 7.2 there are now more CPU tunable attributes as well as adding GPU tunable attributes and WMI battery charge limiting capabilities.

Over in the AArch64 space, the qcom-hamoa-ec driver is added for the embedded controller (EC) found on Qualcomm Hamoa, Purwa, and Glymur SoCs.

The Microsoft Surface platform driver added Surface Pro 12-inch support. The OneXPlayer EC driver is also good to go with OneXPlayer Super X handheld support.

Lastly, the Uniwill laptop driver, as commonly used now by TUXEDO Computers laptops, has support for battery charging modes with Linux 7.2.

The full list of the x86 platform driver changes for Linux 7.2 can be found via this pull request.
