SilverStone RM32 review products

For those with limited rack space and wanting to assemble a high-end server/workstation, the SilverStone RM32 provides a lot of opportunities in being a 3U rackmount chassis that can accommodate an E-ATX or SSI-EEB motherboard, up to a 360mm liquid cooling radiator, and up to four full-size expansion cards all within 3U height requirements. Paired with the SilverStone Extreme 1000Rz Platinum 1000W PSU, you can patch a lot into 5.25 inches.

SilverStone RM32 front

SilverStone recently sent over a review sample of their RM32 3U rackmount server chassis. It's a nice smaller alternative to the previously reviewed SilverStone RM4A 4U server chassis that was another one of the new server/workstation chassis offerings from this legendary case manufacturer. With the SilverStone RM32 it can accommodate up to an SSI-EEB motherboard, SFX-L or 2U CPRS redundant power supplies, four full-height PCIe expansion slots, and up to 360mm liquid cooling radiators.

SilverStone RM32 accessories

At the front of the SilverStone RM32 is room for three 120mm intake fans and where a liquid cooling radiator can be mounted. For exhaust, at the rear is support for up to two 60mm fans.

Front panel I/O on this server chassis includes one USB Type-C connector and two USB 3.0 ports.

SilverStone RM32 rear

The four expansion slots on the RM32 come by way of rotating them within a removable metal cage on this 3U server chassis. Included with the RM32 is one PCIe 5.0 x16 extension/riser cable for connecting a graphics card or other peripheral to the motherboard.

Due to the expansion slot cage and overall 3U height requirements, if using a CPU heatsink fan it must be 110mm or less, or an 86mm height requirement is imposed if the CPU cooler area conflicts with the PCIe riser cable. The expansion cage meanwhile can handle PCIe expansion cards up to 17mm in width if using a SFX-L power supply or 162mm width if using the 2U redundant power supplies. In either case up to 360mm in length expansion cards are supported.

The SilverStone RM32 can handle up to five 2.5-inch storage drives or a combination of three 2.5 inch drives and two 3.5 inch drives.

SilverStone SFX power supply

For powering the server there is space for a SFX/SFX-L power supply or 2U CPRS redundant power supplies. SilverStone provided their new Extreme 1000Rz Platinum 1000W PSU as part of this server build. The SilverStone Extreme 1000Rz Platinum SFX power supply is equipped with PCIe Gen5 12V 2x6 PCIe connector support, 92mm fan, and is a fully modular design. There is support for two CPU 4+4P connectors, one 12V-2x6 PCIe Gen 5 connector, four PCIe 6+2P connectors, and the other peripheral connectors.

SilverStone Extreme 1000Rz Platinum

The SilverStone Extreme 1000Rz Platinum 1000W power supply is very capable for its small size. Though the cables when routing to an AMD Ryzen Threadripper motherboard setup ended up being a bit short and I ended up having to use 24-pin and dual CPU 8-pin power cable extensions in order to accommodate the cable routing.

SilverStone RM32 side

For those not wanting to rackmount this 3U server chassis but run it standalone or upright, the SilverStone RAC-CF4-440 is an optional kit providing case feet as well as the handle bar adapters for their rackmount enclosures.
