With Intel having been one of the most dominant open-source contributors for years across the software ecosystem, months after they began sunsetting various software projects no longer aligned with today's Intel, they continue formally sunsetting/archiving different open-source projects.

Days after sunsetting another round of open-source projects, some additional Intel software projects received their formal archival notices this week. That was after the heavy losses in prior months of ending open ecosystem/community evangelism, the sad ending to Clear Linux, the not-missed end to Software Defined Silicon projects, and many more over the past year.

This latest round of archival notices in the Intel open-source space includes:

Thunderbolt Share - This was an OBS Studio Plugin that allowed content creators/streamers to use Intel Thunderbolt Share. With this plug-in it could be used for capturing the display and sound of one computer and sending it to another computer via Thunderbolt Share for a nifty and high performant streaming setup. (Update, 4 June 2026: This OBS Studio Plug-In has been reinstated. I am told from an Intel employee that its archival was unintended/mistake and has now been rectified.)

CVE Binary Tool Action - Intel's project for scanning GitHub repositories for known CVEs. Intel had worked on this over the past few years for scanning binaries, component lists, and SBOMs for any known vulnerabilities and CVEs.

SMTA - The Streaming Media Transcoding Application for demonstrating video transcoding capabilities of Intel integrated graphics on their processors.

Intel Trusted Ledger Config Store - A MIT-licensed software project for leveraging Intel Software Guard Extensions (SGX) enclaves for identity collateral data.

SCAP - Intel Labs research into Statistical Calibrated Activation Pruning.

There was also the Intel Self-Governed Remote Attestation. That was archived but then the same day reverted and un-retired. So it looks like that will continue moving forward after miscommunication.

Even with their project ending notices over the past year, Intel remains a significant open-source contributor and continues contributing heavily in key areas relevant to their modern business needs such as around compilers and the Linux kernel.
