On May 22, 2026, a gas explosion occurred at the Liushanyu Coal Industry Co., Ltd. of Shanxi Tongzhou Group in Qinyuan County, Changzhi City, Shanxi Province, causing significant casualties.

The National Health Commission fully supports Shanxi Province in carrying out medical treatment for the injured and psychological counseling, promptly dispatching responsible officials and relevant department personnel to the scene to guide emergency rescue coordination. They immediately organized specialists in critical care, respiratory, and trauma from Peking University People's Hospital (National Trauma Medical Center) and China-Japan Friendship Hospital (National Respiratory Medical Center) for multidisciplinary remote consultations for the admitted patients. They also deployed respiratory critical care, trauma, and burn specialists from Peking Union Medical College Hospital and Beijing Jishuitan Hospital (National Orthopedic Medical Center) to the hospitals treating the injured, forming joint rescue teams with local authorities to strengthen patient care with "one patient, one strategy." They also guided Shanxi Province in selecting provincial and municipal psychological experts to provide psychological support to the injured and their families.

The National Health Commission will continue to support Shanxi Province in medical treatment for the injured, dispatching national medical forces as needed to maximize the protection of patients' lives. At the same time, they will carry out risk identification and rectification of safety hazards in the health sector, strengthen on-duty supervision, and strive to balance development and safety.
