President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were whisked out of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner by security after shots were fired near the event.
A gunman in the lobby of the Washington Hilton Hotel fired several shots as the event was underway before he was taken down by security, according to several reporters at the scene.
The gunman was later confirmed dead by CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, who was in attendance at the dinner.
NewsNation host Katie Pavlich reported that “everyone immediately hit the floor” as several shots were heard.
