Observability for the “Always On” Power Industry
Helping IT Organizations Prevent Disruptions Before They Impact Business
Eileen.Haggerty · 2026-01-27 · via NETSCOUT

NETSCOUT’s consistent focus on technology innovations is evident in this latest announcement of new capabilities to our observability solutions. The focus is on two specific enhancements:

  • Secure Sockets Layer/Transport Layer Security (SSL/TLS) certificate monitoring capabilities that simplify and expedite management
  • Addition of Wi-Fi 7 support (backwards compatible with Wi-Fi 6E, 6, and 5) to the existing Ethernet support in the newly introduced nGenius Edge Sensor model 795

SSL Certificates

SSL/TLS certificates encrypt data and verify digital identity, authenticating a website’s identity and legitimacy. According to recent research by the Ponemon Institute, 51 percent of organizations do not know how many digital certificates they have, and the reality is that most enterprises have thousands of SSL certificates. Maintaining records manually for these certificates, including where they are located, who is responsible for them, and when they expire, is exceedingly difficult to do completely and accurately at scale.

Increased risks due to expired or mismanaged certificates can trigger outages across websites, APIs, and critical digital services, causing revenue loss, missed service-level agreements (SLAs), and customer churn. Beyond unplanned outages, certificate failures can also expose organizations to security threats, regulatory violations, and costly remediation, while highly visible browser warnings erode brand trust. Manual certificate management simply cannot scale as certificate lifespans shrink while hybrid, cloud, and third-party ecosystems expand. Many certificate-management software tools can keep track of certificate expiry; it is yet another of the several tools that IT organizations have to purchase, learn to use, and pay maintenance on but that does not necessarily operate directly with other IT tools.

NETSCOUT has enhanced certificate-monitoring capabilities in nGeniusONE to provide real-time insights to maintain valid SSL certificates and proactively detect SSL certificates approaching their expiration. This prevents costly downtime from expiration, maintains user trust by avoiding security warnings, ensures compliance, and guards against vulnerabilities such as misissued or weak certificates. An advantage of NETSCOUT’s certificate-monitoring capability is that nGeniusONE discovers certificates from packets, identifying the unknown certificates that might be running on nonstandard ports or in disguise. It will even discover certificates that may be the result of shadow IT, where the SSL certificate may be owned by a group that added it with a web page outside a standard IT process.

As a result of the enhancements in certificate monitoring, IT teams can more easily manage their servers proactively, protect their business services more efficiently and effectively, and prevent painful problems related to certificate expiration. This innovative approach of including certificate management in nGeniusONE also negates the need to purchase and maintain another point solution, reducing tool clutter, preventing added costs, and improving IT productivity.

Wi-Fi 7

NETSCOUT continues to innovate its observability solutions to help enterprises strengthen their digital resilience. With the Wi-Fi 7 market experiencing explosive growth in response to organizations’ demand for ultra-fast speeds and low latency to support digital transformations and industrial Internet of Thing (IoT), solutions for observability in remote locations need to provide investment protection to support that eventuality. NETSCOUT’s latest addition to the nGenius Edge Sensor instrumentation responds to the increasing reliance on and continued evolution of Wi-Fi access in offices. By adding Wi-Fi 7 support (backwards compatible with Wi-Fi 6E, 6, and 5) to the existing Ethernet support in the new nGenius Edge Sensors, NETSCOUT made it possible for IT teams to confidently implement proactive observability to monitor critical applications at remote sites and receive early-warning notifications of emerging problems, preventing negative impacts to employee productivity, customer service, and revenue streams. Using the solution, enterprises have the observability needed for comprehensive visibility.

With NETSCOUT’s observability solutions, organizations are better able to master their complex networks by shifting from reactive fixes to preventive approaches that avoid revenue- and productivity-impacting disruptions. NETSCOUT isn’t just accelerating mean time to restore (MTTR) with these enhancements; IT teams are gaining the foresight to resolve issues before they touch the business, guaranteeing a high-quality experience for their organizations’ employees and customers.
