Nova Registry “unites” domain industry at Manchester Unit...

Top level domain company hosts event with wide range of domain industry participants at Manchester United game.

Nova Registry hosted an event at the Manchester United game on Monday.

I’ve attended plenty of fun events hosted by domain name companies, but the one on Monday will be unforgettable: Nova Registry hosted about 20 people at a Manchester United game.

The event coincided with an ICANN meeting in Manchester, and took place just days before the top level domain application window opens on Thursday.

Even as someone who doesn’t closely follow “football,” I know the importance of Manchester United in the sport. It was a fun experience that went beyond how cool it was to watch the 2-1 victory.

“Our goal was to unite the domain industry,” Nova Registry General Manager Vaughn Liley said. “As we prepare for the next wave of top level domain expansion, we brought together registrars, registries, and technology and service providers. It was about more than just watching the game — we created an environment where people could connect, exchange ideas, and build relationships.”

Nova Registry currently operates .link and plans to apply for around 200 top level domains this year. Liley was the guest on DNW Podcast #576.

The evening began with a stadium tour, followed by drinks, dinner, and an interview with a former player.

Then came kickoff. Manchester United built a 2-0 lead before Brentford FC pulled one back late, but the home club held on for the win.

As enjoyable as the night was, there was one bit of irony. Liley wasn’t exactly celebrating the result. He’s a supporter of arch-rival Manchester City.
