Police are still searching for the animal.
Authorities issued a public safety warning regarding interactions with wild animals after a toddler was bitten by a raccoon at Wayland Town Beach on Friday.
Two-year-old Grayson Cohen was climbing steps on the beach’s jungle gym when a raccoon lunged from behind the equipment and attacked him, NBC10 Boston reported.
The child, who suffered a deep bite and scratches across his rib cage, was taken to Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He received three stitches and has started a rabies vaccination series.
Grayson has since recovered and returned to his usual self, his parents said.
The Wayland Police Department searched the area but have yet to find the animal, officials said in a safety advisory posted to Facebook. Authorities intend to continue monitoring the beach over the coming days.

Following the attack, police are reminding the public of several wildlife safety precautions.
They urged residents to avoid feeding or approaching raccoons and to maintain distance, especially for children and pets, from any wildlife acting abnormally. Police further emphasized that anyone who is scratched or bitten should get medical help immediately.
