A new video reportedly shows the man driving the wrong way on Route 1 in Lynnfield just minutes before his vehicle collided with a State Police cruiser, killing 30-year-old State Trooper Kevin Trainor and himself.

The video, obtained by Boston 25 News, shows a garbage truck driver seeing the wrong-way driver heading south in the northbound lanes in the Lynnfield tunnel. The driver blares his horn and picks up his phone to call 911 to report the wrong-way Jeep.

Even though his shift ended at 2 a.m., Trainor was among several officers who responded around 2 a.m. to reports of the wrong-way driver.

Trooper Kevin Trainor, 30, was killed when a car traveling the wrong way on Route 1 in Lynnfield crashed into him on May 6, 2026.

The timestamp of the video is 2:02 a.m., according to the news station. Just two minutes later, the Jeep, driven by 50-year-old Hernan Marrero of Roslindale, collided head-on with Trainor’s cruiser. Both men died in the crash.

Trainor, a field training officer, had served as a state trooper for three years. He leaves behind his fiance, mother, three brothers, and one sister.

Gov. Maura Healey ordered the US flag and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts flag lowered to half-staff at all buildings to honor and remember the fallen trooper.

An online fundraiser supporting his family had raised more than $63,000 as of Thursday evening.
