A boy who was reported to be unresponsive and still submerged in an Andover pond on Tuesday afternoon was pulled from the water by first responders and ultimately medflighted to a Boston hospital, local police said.

Emergency personnel responded to the call from Field Pond, which is in Harold Parker State Forest, at about 4:30 p.m., Andover police said in a release. There, “first responders arrived at the shoreline to find several male juveniles who were on the opposite shoreline yelling to them attempting to direct them toward where the juvenile male was last observed prior to going under water.”

The first responders, using a paddle board and floatation devices, then entered the water and located the boy near where he was last seen, about 25 feet from shore and submerged in roughly 10 to 12 feet of water, police said.

Life-saving measures commenced on the paddle board, and the boy was brought via ambulance to Lawrence General Hospital before being medflighted to Boston.

There was no update on the boy’s condition as of Wednesday morning, and the incident remained under investigation, police said.
