A man is facing numerous charges, including larceny, after he allegedly stole nearly $2,000 from church donation boxes, according to Medford police.

Michael Bagley, 60, was arrested Sunday in Medford Square after morning services at St. Joseph’s Parish, police said on Facebook. He is charged with one count of larceny over $1,200 by a single scheme, along with six counts each of larceny from a building, breaking into a depository, and possession of a burglarious instrument, according to court records.

Bagley was arraigned Monday in Somerville District Court, where he pleaded not guilty. He posted $100 bail and is due back in court Aug. 26, records show.

On June 15, Medford police learned that a man had been fishing money out of church donation boxes at St. Joseph’s Parish and St. Francis Church following Sunday services. The parishes reviewed video footage and found evidence dating back as far as May 19, police said.

Bagley is suspected to have stolen nearly $2,000 from the two churches over the course of a month, according to police. Detectives also learned that he allegedly committed similar thefts in several surrounding cities and towns.

Court records indicate that Bagley is unhoused. It was not immediately clear Wednesday evening whether he has an attorney representing him.
