The dump truck, driven by a Marlborough resident, crashed into a playground fence in Lewiston, Maine, police say.

Three Massachusetts individuals were arrested following a police pursuit through Lewiston, Maine, involving a dump truck stolen from Marlborough on Friday, officials said.

Officers received a report shortly before 8 p.m. regarding a stolen Ford dual-wheeled dump truck seen in Lewiston’s downtown area, according to a statement from the Lewiston Police Department

Police attempted to intercept the vehicle near the intersection of Bartlett and Walnut street, but the driver pulled into a parking lot at 84 Walnut St.

“Realizing the vehicle had nowhere to go, the suspect vehicle intentionally rammed into a cruiser,” police said.

While the cruiser was totaled, the officer inside was not injured, police reported.

The pursuit continued along Howe Street to the back of Longley School, where the truck collided with a playground fence, according to the police statement.

An officer who struck the damaged fencing suffered a large laceration on his head. He was treated at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, where he received seven staples, police said.

Following the second collision, the three people inside the truck attempted to escape on foot but were quickly caught.

The driver, identified as 23-year-old Antonio Moralespijoan, of Marlborough, now faces numerous charges, including reckless conduct, aggravated criminal mischief, theft by receiving stolen property, and refusing to submit to arrest, according to the police statement.

Almeida is charged with theft by unauthorized use of property and possession of stolen property, while Grossi is charged with theft by unauthorized use of property, possession of stolen property, and refusing to submit to arrest.

A spokesperson for the police department told Boston.com that authorities believe the suspects traveled to Lewiston “to commit a crime.” Further details regarding the nature of the alleged crime are not being released at this time, they added.

The three Massachusetts residents are being held at Androscoggin County Jail and are scheduled for arraignment at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Lewiston District Court, according to a court spokesperson.
