The situation escalated after the child's mother declined to give the man her phone number, police say.

A man who allegedly “became aggressive” and touched a child’s feet after being rejected by a woman on the Green Line was arrested Tuesday, transit police said.

The 33-year-old man appeared to be intoxicated while on a Green Line train near Park Street. He reportedly began making “unwanted overtures” toward a woman on the train, according to a statement from MBTA Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan.

The woman was with her 3-year-old son, who was in a stroller. Sullivan said the man had “tickled” the child’s feet at one point.

When the woman told him to stop, the man “became aggressive” and asked for her phone number, Sullivan said.

After being “rebuffed,” the man grabbed the boy’s leg and stated, “Looks like he wants you to go with me,” according to Sullivan.

The suspect fled the scene, but officers were able to locate him and take him into custody near Chauncy/Summer Street.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the man.

While police did not specify the exact charges filed, a spokesperson for the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said more information would be available following his arraignment.

The investigation remains active, Sullivan said.
