A recent poll found that 24% of Americans have reconsidered their travel plans.

Some Americans are changing their travel plans due to rising costs and global events. Are you one of them?

An April poll by The Points Guy and YouGov found that 24% of Americans have reconsidered upcoming trips. What’s more, 25% of travelers said they are choosing less expensive or closer destinations.

Travel issues have made headlines this year.

“It’s been quite a year already in the world of travel, as the war in Iran and other global conflicts have forced airspace to close across the Middle East and sent jet fuel prices (and airline ticket prices) surging,” wrote The Points Guy in a post about the poll. “There was also a brief outbreak of cartel violence in Mexico that scrambled vacation plans for thousands of Americans. A partial government shutdown stretching into months, causing hourslong lines at some airport checkpoints, didn’t help.”

Lauren Bailey, of Seattle, told The New York Times in a recent post about Americans rethinking summer travel plans that she pushed her European trip from June to October, hoping a peace deal with Iran could be reached before then.

“I want to enjoy this trip and not worry about getting stuck because my flight gets canceled or being harassed because I’m an American,” Bailey said, adding she may still take a road trip this summer depending on gas prices.
